2005 — 2011
An idea finds its place.

28 January
Adamastor is founded.
A group of young people founds Adamastor in Viseu. Their ambition is to create opportunities for learning, European cooperation and encounters with other cultures, connecting young people in the region with new experiences.
- 2009
European volunteering
Our first European accreditation.
Adamastor is accredited for the European Voluntary Service. A milestone in hosting and supporting young people on international volunteering experiences, a commitment that continues today through the European Solidarity Corps.

Local participation
Young people at the decision-making table.
With the creation of Viseu's Municipal Youth Council, Adamastor takes on advisory and secretariat roles. Youth participation gains another space for dialogue with the municipality.

2015 — 2017
More doors open in Viseu.

15 September
Europe comes closer.
Adamastor joins the Eurodesk network as a multiplier in Portugal. European information, guidance and opportunities become more accessible to Viseu's young people. Today, we are multiplier PT002 in the Portuguese network.

The first step towards the hostel.
An agreement is signed with Movijovem for Viseu Youth Hostel. A new chapter begins in welcoming young people, travellers and participants in Adamastor's projects.

The hostel opens its doors.
Viseu Youth Hostel | Adamastor opens in Fontelo Park. A place to stay, meet and share, connecting the city with its visitors.

Fontelo gains new life.
Adamastor and the Municipality of Viseu sign an agreement to run the Fontelo Youth Centre, Viseu Jovem. A place to experiment, learn and take part in community life.

Inclusion through sport
We take to the pitch.
Adamastor takes on district coordination of Street Football in Viseu as part of Associação CAIS's project. Sport becomes another way to promote inclusion, confidence and teamwork.

From Viseu to the nationals
Our first national appearance.
Following work across the district, Viseu takes part in the National Street Football Tournament for the first time. The journey continues through district tournaments and shared experiences on the pitch.

Viseu welcomes the country.
The city hosts the National Street Football Tournament. The event also sees Viseu win the women's national title.

Adamastor celebrates two decades of activity. From local participation to European mobility, from hosting to inclusion through sport, there are ever more ways to be part of the association.

The name we carry
Facing giants

Our name comes from the character Adamastor in The Lusiads, by Luís de Camões.
For the association, he represents the fears and challenges young people encounter and learn to overcome. An invitation to discover what lies beyond the first obstacle.
